COME ON CUCAMELON!
I remember Alan Tichmarsh once said something along the lines of "Gardening is easy - plants want to grow, that's what they're programmed to do" Well not for me they don't. I painstakingly follow the instructions, I prepare soil, plant to the right depth, maintain moisture levels and...nothing. Of the packet of Cucamelon seeds I planted, this single, tiny, fragile seedling is so far literally 'the fruits of my labour.' Cucamelons look like little watermelons (apparently) and taste like cucumber with a hint of lime. I bought several weird and wonderful packs of seeds from James Wongs 'Homegrown Revoloution' range and have grown, with varying levels of success - Electric Daisies (about 10 seedlings) and Wild White Strawberries (ahem, none so far.) Our allotment plot eagerly awaits their triumphant arrival but I have a feeling that the rather less exotic Sweet Pea may have to fill in the gaps. Obviously knowledge and experience set you firmly on the path to success but I also believe that there are the green fingered people and then there is me. Let's hope our little Cucamelon seedling defies the odds and survives my black fingered ministrations.
No doubt I'll be posting similar photos of my own bountiful harvest!!
